How hR got so Real...About Me

"Realness" Alert!

You are going to see me do and say a lot of things on this website that a lot marketing experts would not recommend for a successful online business. One of the first things you’ll notice is that there is no fancy language trying to convince you how smart and successful I am or there are no pretty pictures of me in business suits and striking thoughtful poses so I’ll look just “right” for us to work together.  In fact, I actually decided to create this website myself instead of hiring a company to do it so I could go through the entire creative process that would allow me to be the most “ME” as possible.

I’ve also decided to go against marketing advice by keeping my identity  anonymous until we actually start working together. Because I currently do HR Consulting for companies to earn the majority of my income right now,  I believe that if those companies found out that I was focusing on HR Consulting directly with employees instead, they might see it as a conflict to their own interests and stop working with me. However, once HR Consulting for employees becomes a full-time gig for me, I’ll have no problem focusing solely on employee interests and revealing my identity at that time (hopefully it’s sooner than later).

If all of this hasn’t scared you away yet, I can promise that as soon as we start talking and working together,  I’ll reveal my identity, and you can search me up on LinkedIn or Google and see that I have over twenty years of HR experience, an MBA, and both of my HR certifications.  But more importantly, I hope you’ll know that while things like experience and education matter, you’ll be struck most by knowing I’m here to help you and that the work we do together will actually improve your career (and hopefully your life).

How i got here

Simply put: I decided to get REAL with myself.

What originally made me pursue HR might’ve been something as silly as a 22 year old realizing they had the power to be a major part of a hiring decision.  In pretty short order, however, I realized that hiring people was perfectly fine, but what I really loved was helping others AFTER they got their job. Working with employees to navigate their career through their own learning and development quickly became my passion.

Ironically, the higher I moved up in HR, the farther I got away from helping and working directly with employees.  Instead, I found myself focusing more on providing “value” to companies through managing their HR people risk, optimization of HR compliance and facilitating the best utilization of their human resources (Ugh…just even writing that here makes me cringe).

So what originally started off as helping a “friend-of-a-friend” with a situation at their job quickly multiplied into helping LOTS of people with anything from career catastrophes to simply providing basic and sound advice to help them progress towards the next step in their career.  And you know what? I started to feel good about my HR work again!  I began to realize that maybe I didn’t have to make a living only by helping companies be HR and legally compliant or seeing their employees only in terms of an expensive budgetary labor cost. Instead, I could spend my time helping employees to align their careers to their own lives, desires and goals and help them believe in themselves  again.  I am hopeful that I can do this full-time and plan to keep you updated on my progress towards this goal.
